Easy Traditional Shortbread

With only 3 ingredients, this is a quick and easy shortbread that is perfect for a Christmas gift or table treat.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Makes: 12 servings


100 grams margarine
50 grams caster sugar
150 grams plain flour

Preheat the oven to 160 C. Lightly grease a baking tray.

Use an electric mixer to cream together the margarine and sugar.

Gradually add the flour, beating, to form a mixture that resembles thick breadcrumbs.

Gather the dough by pressing it together with your hands into a rough ball.

Place the rough dough onto a lightly floured cutting board. Use your hands to knead the dough until smooth. Form two balls.

Roll the dough balls out to about 5mm thick.

Slide each rolled dough sheet onto baking trays.

Use your hands to form neat edges. Use a knife to score the dough, then make indents with a fork.

Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until light golden brown.

Once the shortbread is halfway cooled, place each onto a cutting board and slice along the score marks.
