Easy Wholemeal Loaves
Nothing warms a home like the smell of freshly baked bread. This quick and easy recipe is wonderfully simple to make. The dough requires no kneading and only takes a few minutes to mix. It is so delicious and should stay moist for days.
Everyone will think you spent hours slaving over this delightful bread.
Preparation Time: 10 minutes 30 mins to rise
Cooking Time: 40 minutes
Makes: 3 Loaves
Ingredients
12 C wholemeal flour (bread flour)
1 TBSP salt
1 TBSP dried yeast
5 C warm water
1 TBSP sugar (muscovado or castor)
Method
Sift flour and salt together in a large bowl.
Flour and yeast water
In a jug sprinkle the yeast over 3/4 of a cup of warm water and leave for a few minutes, then stir in the sugar.
To make one loaf
Make a well in the flour and pour in the yeast water and the remaining water.
Mix for about a minute pushing the sides into the middle.
Should be wet and easily meld
Pour the mixture into three well oiled tins and cover with a tea towel or oiled cling wrap.
Leave in a warm place for 30 minutes or until the dough has risen by a third.
Leave to rise somewhere warm and dry
Bake in a 200° oven for 40 mins.
The bread is ready when the loaf is crisp to touch and sounds hollow when "knocked on".
Turn onto a wire tray to cool.
NOTE: I usually just make one loaf to last me the week but the recipe I work off is for 3 and it is easier to measure yourself. The pictures are the making of one loaf.
