Edible Vanilla Penguins
These penguins are super cute and deliciously sweet. Perfect for a fun day with the kids, afternoon tea, or a cute addition to any dessert. They don't have to be pink, just swap the pink food colouring with a colour of your choice, or divide the dough further and make multi-coloured penguins.
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Assembly Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Makes: 12 penguins
Ingredients
15g butter, softened
1 tbsp light corn syrup
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups icing sugar
Yellow and pink food colouring
1 tsp of decorating sprinkles
Method
Combine butter, corn syrup, salt and vanilla extract in a medium bowl. Mix until smooth.
Sift in icing sugar, mix until a stiff dough forms (using your hands to mix in this step is usually easiest).
In a separate bowl add approximately 4 drops of pink food colouring to 3/4 of the dough and mix through.
Using the now pink dough, form 24 marble sized balls. Stack one ball on top of another until you form 12 bodies for the penguins (make sure you have a small amount of dough left over).
Divide the remaining 1/4 of the dough in half and place in 2 separate bowls. Add one drop of yellow food colouring to one bowl and mix though. Leave the other half white.
Roll white dough into 12 small balls and press onto the bottom half of each penguin body to form a white belly.
Using the remaining pink dough, form a set of tiny wings for each penguin and stick on.
Using the yellow dough form 12 tiny pointed beaks for the penguins and stick on the bodies.
Finally stick sprinkles onto each penguin to form eyes.
Penguins will keep well in the fridge in an airtight container for about one week.
Enjoy.
