Eggy Bread Tower

Eggy Bread Tower

Posted 2014-05-28 by Lindsay Lawfollow
This is a simple supper that is quick and easy to prepare, and makes an interesting variation from plain French toast.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Makes: 4 servings

Ingredients
6 slices wholemeal bread
2 large eggs
2 tbsp milk
Pinch of salt and pepper
100g grated cheese

Method
  • Preheat the oven to 180 celsius.

  • Break the eggs into a bowl.

  • Add the milk and then season with the salt and pepper.

  • Whisk the ingredients together.

  • Cut the crusts off the wholemeal bread.

  • Dip the bread into the egg and milk mixture until the bread soaks up the mixture like a sponge. Turn over the bread so both sides are soaked.

  • Place the bread in a non-stick frying pan and fry on both sides until golden-brown.

  • Once all your bread is fried, lay out slices in an oven dish. These will form the bottom of the tower.

  • Cover the bread with the grated cheese and then lay another slice on top.

  • Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top slice of bread.

  • Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
