Fig Nut Paste
Something of a cross between fruit preserve and nut butter, this crunchy fig nut paste makes for a healthier alternative that you can spread on bread or even bake in mini tarts.
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Makes: 2 jars
Ingredients
120g fresh figs
100g walnuts
100g almond flakes
1 orange
½tsp cocoa powder
2 ½tsp honey
200ml almond milk
Method
Chop the nuts, and toast for five minutes under the grill.
Chop the figs, peel the orange, and mix with the nuts, cocoa powder, milk, and honey.
Simmer for 5 minutes in a saucepan until soft.
Pour the mixture into a food processor and blend (how long you blend depends on how crunchy or smooth you want the paste to be).
If any excess liquid remains, put back on the heat until it has reduced.
Jar the fig nut paste or use as a filling to make tarts.
