Fig Nut Paste

Posted 2015-03-30 by Bastion Harrisonfollow
Something of a cross between fruit preserve and nut butter, this crunchy fig nut paste makes for a healthier alternative that you can spread on bread or even bake in mini tarts.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Makes: 2 jars

Ingredients
120g fresh figs
100g walnuts
100g almond flakes
1 orange
½tsp cocoa powder
2 ½tsp honey
200ml almond milk

Method

  • Chop the nuts, and toast for five minutes under the grill.

  • Chop the figs, peel the orange, and mix with the nuts, cocoa powder, milk, and honey.

  • Simmer for 5 minutes in a saucepan until soft.

  • Pour the mixture into a food processor and blend (how long you blend depends on how crunchy or smooth you want the paste to be).
  • If any excess liquid remains, put back on the heat until it has reduced.

  • Jar the fig nut paste or use as a filling to make tarts.
