Remember the mouth watering smell of French toast that would tickle your nose as soon as you get out of bed, first thing in the morning on Sundays? Well, here is a nice eggless recipe with an oriental twist, that will turn this classic toast into a delightful dessert.
Preparation Time: 10-15 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Makes: 6-8 servings
Ingredients
Slices of stale bread
2 tbsp ghee
375 ml condensed milk
125 ml cream
55g sugar
1 piece of cinnamon
Few cardamoms pods, crushed
Pinch of saffron strands
Pistachios
Almonds sliced thinly
Method
Pre-heat oven at 180C and grease an oven proof dish.
Slice bread thinly and place at the base of the dish, covering the whole base neatly.
In a saucepan, heat the ghee. Add cinnamon and cardamoms and sauté until spices start to pop up.
Take off heat and drizzle over the bread.
In another bowl, mix condensed milk, cream and sugar and pour mixture over the bread. You may have to adjust the quantity of milk, according to the number of slices of bread used.
Sprinkle almonds, pistachios and saffron strands over the top.
Leave to stand for at least 30 minutes before putting in oven.
Bake at 180C for 30 minutes.
Take out of oven when done and leave to cool off before placing in fridge.
