If you have a tree full of flowering red Hibiscus, why not turn them into this delicious and vibrantly colored cordial? You will be surprised by the beautiful natural color which is created by just a few red petals in water. is a commonly consumed beverage in the tropics where the flowers grow in abundance - I first tried this drink in Bali, Indonesia and now every sip reminds me of lovely Lembongan Island.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Makes: 1 bottle of cordial

Red Hibiscus flowers

Take off all the petals

Method
  • Pick 4 -5 fresh Hibiscus flowers.

  • Boil the petals to drain the color

  • Strain the liquid, and discard the remaining hibiscus petals.

  • Add caster sugar, lemon juice and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Cool.

  • Pour your Fresh Hibiscus cordial into a bottle and store in the fridge or serve immediately with lemonade and ice. Or maybe use this as a base for a creative sunset cocktail.
