Golden Syrup Dumplings

This dessert is one of the things I used to ask my mum to make for me because I absolutely loved it, it was a childhood favourite. Now I can make them for her to enjoy.



Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time:15 minutes
Serves: 4

Ingredients
155g brown sugar
80ml golden syrup plus 1 tablespoon
100g butter
225g self raising flour
185ml milk

Method
  • In a large saucepan combine 500 ml water, brown sugar, 80ml golden syrup and 50g butter.
  • Stir over a low heat until all is melted.

  • Preparing the sauce


  • While this is happening, use your fingertips to rub in 50g butter into the flour, or you can also put the flour and butter into a processor and pulse for 1-2 minutes until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

  • Flour pulsed in the processor

  • Next combine milk and 1 tablespoon golden syrup and stir into the flour mixture until well combined.

  • Dumpling mixture ready to use


  • Bring the sauce to the boil then drop heaped dessert spoonfuls of the mixture into the sauce.

  • When boiling like this turn to low and place the lid on


  • Reduce the heat to a low temperature and simmer, covered for about 15 minutes or until you check with a skewer and it comes out clean.

  • Serve with ice cream or cream and enjoy.
