Healthy Snack of Chocolate Date Balls

Healthy Snack of Chocolate Date Balls

Posted 2017-07-16 by finyfollow

These are a chocolate bliss ball made with dates and no added sugar.

If you want an even lower calorie snack, I did a few rolled in coconut instead of in the dark chocolate - either way, they are far healthier than ones you would buy in the shops, with no added sugars.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes plus 1½ hours fridge/soaking
Cooking Time: 2 minutes
Serves: About 20 balls

Ingredients
180 g Medjool dates, pitted (or I use Macro brand also
1 tbsp cacao powder
1 tbsp melted coconut oil
50 g walnuts
100 g dark chocolate (70%)

Method
  • Soak the dates for 30 minutes in boiling water, and then drain

  • Put the dates plus cacao, coconut oil, and walnuts in a processor or blender.

  • Blend until the mixture is combined - does not matter if there are small bits in it.

  • Put in the freezer for 30 minutes

  • Roll the mixture into anywhere between 12 and 20 balls - I prefer smaller ones as they are quite rich.

  • Put on a tray on baking paper and put in the fridge again for 30 minutes to harden.

  • Just before you take them out, melt the chocolate in the microwave.

  • Get the ingredients ready all in the one spot.

  • Roll them in the melted chocolate and put back on the tray and in the fridge.
  • I used a tooth pick to turn them around in the melted chocolate

  • I rolled some in coconut, and then put a blob of chocolate on the top for those who want an even lower calorie sweet.
