Homemade Fish Ball Soup

You'll be surprised at how easy it is to make and cook fresh homemade fish balls in your kitchen. It's a heartwarming soup for your family.



Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Makes: 4 servings

Ingredients
Fish Balls
1 kg fresh mackerel fillets
2 tsp salt
1 tsp white pepper powder

Soup
1L chicken stock
2 bunches bok choy, chopped
1 tbsp fish sauce
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp fried minced garlic
1 tsp white pepper powder

Method
  • Rinse the fish fillets with cold water, pat dry with paper towels. Slice off the skins, discard. Remove the bones, discard.



  • Using a knife, chop the fish meat for about 10 minutes until sticky. Season with salt and pepper, continue chopping until it becomes a fish paste.



  • Wet your hands with water and take a tablespoon of the fish paste onto your palm, shape them into fish balls.



  • In a pot, bring the stock to the boil. Drop in the fish balls. Turn the heat down when fish balls float to the top.



  • Add in bok choy and fried garlic. Cook for 2 minutes until bok choy just wilted. Season with soy sauce, fish sauce and pepper.



  • Divide fish balls among bowls. Serve the soup immediately.
