This is an Asian type of recipe and was quite different to other prawn recipes I have made - perhaps it was the five spice powder which I do not often use!
Whatever it was, it turned out to be a very enjoyable meal, and a very quick one to make.
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 8 minutes
Serves: 2
Ingredients
225 g uncooked, shelled prawns (or about 450 g unshelled)
1 large shallot, thinly sliced
3 garlic cloves, sliced
½ tbsp ginger
¼ red capsicum, finely sliced into strips
1 tbsp honey
½ tbsp fish sauce
½ tbsp soy sauce
¼ tsp five spice powder
Method
Heat a bit of oil in a wok or large frypan on a high heat.
Add the prawns and stir for about a minute - they should not be cooked through but just starting to turn pink. If you overcook prawns, they become tough, and you will be cooking them more.
Add a bit more oil to the wok and add the shallot, ginger and garlic and stir fry until soft - this is usually only about 3 minutes.
Add the strips of capsicum and cook for another minute.
Stir in the honey, soy sauce, fish sauce, and the five spice powder.
Add the prawns and cook, stirring so they are well coated, for about 2 more minutes.
Add some pepper and serve.
.
The second night I heated up the prawns very slightly, and served it with tomato and grapes on the side.
