Honey and Ginger Prawns

Honey and Ginger Prawns

Posted 2017-02-10 by finyfollow

This is an Asian type of recipe and was quite different to other prawn recipes I have made - perhaps it was the five spice powder which I do not often use!

Whatever it was, it turned out to be a very enjoyable meal, and a very quick one to make.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 8 minutes
Serves: 2

Ingredients
225 g uncooked, shelled prawns (or about 450 g unshelled)
1 large shallot, thinly sliced
3 garlic cloves, sliced
½ tbsp ginger
¼ red capsicum, finely sliced into strips
1 tbsp honey
½ tbsp fish sauce
½ tbsp soy sauce
¼ tsp five spice powder

Method
  • Heat a bit of oil in a wok or large frypan on a high heat.

  • Add the prawns and stir for about a minute - they should not be cooked through but just starting to turn pink. If you overcook prawns, they become tough, and you will be cooking them more.

  • Remove from the wok.

  • Add a bit more oil to the wok and add the shallot, ginger and garlic and stir fry until soft - this is usually only about 3 minutes.

  • Add the strips of capsicum and cook for another minute.

  • Stir in the honey, soy sauce, fish sauce, and the five spice powder.

  • Add the prawns and cook, stirring so they are well coated, for about 2 more minutes.

  • Add some pepper and serve.

  • I served it with my [link http://recipeyum.com.au/eggplant-with-mozzarella-and-cooked-tomato-sauce-stacks/ eggplant stacks].
  • .

  • The second night I heated up the prawns very slightly, and served it with tomato and grapes on the side.
