This Chinese inspired dish is perfect when you fancy something a little sweet for dinner. So quick that you will happily make this instead of driving to get takeaway.
Paired with a steamed rice this is satisfying and a great light midweek meal.
Preparation Time: 20-30 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Serves: 4
Ingredients
600g pork fillet
Oil to shallow fry
Sesame seeds to garnish
Batter for pork
½ cup of plain flour
¼ cup of corn flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ cup soda water
¼ teaspoon of salt
Honey Sauce
2-3 garlic cloves
¼ cup of oil
½ cup of honey
½ tablespoon tomato sauce
2 teaspoons corn flour
1 teaspoon sesame oil
½ cup of water
1 teaspoon salt
Method
Pork
Finely slice pork fillet removing excess fat.
In a medium bowl whisk together the batter ingredients. Leave to rest for 20-30minutes.
After batter has rested, add pork and coat well.
Fry pork in batches until golden brown. It should only take 2-3 minutes per batch.
In a dry non stick pan lightly roast the sesame seeds until they have browned slightly. Put aside to use as garnish.
Honey Sauce
In a small saucepan heat oil and garlic until fragrant.
Add remaining “honey sauce” ingredients from above. Let sauce simmer for a few minutes until consistency starts to thicken. You will need to whisk.
Add cooked pork to honey sauce and serve immediately.
Garnish with lightly roasted sesame seeds.
