How to Make your Own Easy Bubble Tea or Boba at Home
I have had bubble tea whilst out however I found it a bit too sweet, and from what I have read, commercial ones have a lot of sugar in them.
So I decided to set out to make my own and it was very simple - only thing different is that I did not have the wide straws to suck the pearls up with, and this is really part of the bubble tea experience!
Preparation Time: 10 minutes plus fridge time
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Serves: 3
Ingredients
About a third of a cup of black tapioca
A large pot of black tea, cooled
About 1 - 3 tblsp of sweetener - I used Agave
Milk to taste
Method
Boil some water and put in a pot and when it is back on the boil, slowly add your black tapioca.
Cook for about 5 minutes, put the lid on, and let sit for another 10 minutes or so.
Rinse them and drain.
Put some in each glass and while still warm, add the sweetener - I only added about a tsp in each glass though it possibly needs more!
Let sit while it cools.
Meanwhile, make your pot of tea, and allow this to cool, and then put in the fridge till needed.
Pour the tea over the tapioca in the glasses, leaving enough room to make it as milky as you want.
Add as much milk as you want.
You could add some coconut milk to give it a different flavour, and this is best if you just make enough to use at the moment.
I have read that you can make a sugar syrup by boiling a sweetener with water, and you could add this after the milk if you prefer, but the way I did it here seemed easier.
