Indonesian Beef Ball Soup with Rice Vermicelli

Bihun Bakso, as we called it in Indonesia, is a popular street snack/soup that you will spot as you walk along the streets. This beef ball soup that is so versatile, it can be served with rice vermicelli, noodles, steamed jasmine rice or even to enjoy on its own! It is so simple and easy to make.



Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Makes: 4 servings

Ingredients

12 cloves garlic, blended to paste
2 teaspoons white pepper powder
1 tablespoon salt
2L beef stock

2 packets 200g beef balls
4 rice vermicelli
fried shallots, to serve
Kecap manis, to serve
chilli sauce, to serve

Method

  • In a stockpot, bring the beef stock to the boil. Add in the blended garlic, white pepper powder and salt.



  • Add in the beef balls and cook for 10 minutes.



  • Cook the vermicelli in boiling water for 1 minute. Drain.



  • Divide the vermicelli into 4 bowl. Spoon beef balls on top and pour in some soup. Sprinkle the fried shallots and serve with kecap manis and chilli sauce.
