Instant Semolina Idly
Looking for a food alternative which is instantaneous yet filling? ‘’ would be one of your options. It is easy to prepare, can be done in quick time and does not need grinding of the batter and or fermenting it. It tastes yummy and helps you, especially when you are expecting guests on a short notice.

Makes: 18 servings
Ingredients
2 cups semolina
2 cup curd
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp black gram
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp grated ginger
2-3 red or green chillies
Finely chopped coriander leaves
1 pinch asafoetida
Salt to taste
Oil to grease the idly pan
Method
Mix the semolina and little curd in a bowl. Keep this mixture aside for 5 minutes.

Take some oil and heat it in a pan.
Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, black gram, asafoetida and ginger to it.
Heat the oil, till the mustard seeds start to splutter.

Add these ingredients to the semolina mixture.
Add baking soda and coriander powder to it.

Now, grease the idly pan with some oil and transfer the semolina mixture to it.

Idly pan is available at any Indian store and also can be ordered online. In case you do not have a pan, you may cook this mixture in a microwave bowl for 5-7 minutes and then cut it into pieces)

Steam the idly transferred to the pan, in a pressure cooker or heat it in a microwave for 10 minutes.

Remove the mould from the cooker and separate the idlis. Serve the idlis steaming hot, with coconut chutney and sambhar.
