Khichdi

Khichdi is one of my comfort foods. It is prepared with rice, any pulses you like and some spices. I have only used peas in this recipe but you can add more vegetables if you like.

Preparation Time: 42 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Makes: 3 servings

Ingredients

1/2 cup basmati rice
1/2 cup moong dal/spilt and green gram pulses
1/2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
1/4 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)
1.5 tbsp ghee
1/3 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/3 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp oil
3 cup water
Regular salt as required

Method

Wash and soak rice and dal for 30 minutes in water.
Heat oil in a pressure pan and then add mustard seeds, cumin seeds,ginger garlic paste saute for a few minutes.



Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and green peas, then saute for 2 seconds.



Next add the soaked green gram pulses, rice (after draining the water) and saute for a few more seconds.



Add 3 cups of water and salt if needed then mix them and bring to a boil.



Close the cooker and pressure cook for 3 whistles.



Open the cooker and then add ghee.
