is a popular middle eastern dessert, made with special kataifi pastry.



Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 60 minutes
Serves: 12

Ingredients
400 gm kataifi pastry ( you can easily find it in any middle eastern food store)
1/2 cup melted butter
240 gm cream cheese
1/4 teaspoon orange food colour
1 cup sugar
1 cup water


Method
  • Preheat the oven at 180 degree C.
  • Grease a 30 cm baking pan with 2 tablespoons of butter mixed with orange food colour.
  • Put the pastry in a mixing bowl.
  • Shred it using your hands.
  • Pour 1/2 cup butter over the pastry and mix properly.

  • Divide the pastry in half.
  • Spread half of the pastry evenly in the greased baking pan, and press with your hands.
  • Spread cream cheese evenly over the pastry.

  • Finally spread the remaining half pastry over the cream cheese.
  • Put the pan in the pre heated oven and bake for 30-40 minutes or until the top turns golden.

  • Prepare the syrup by combining sugar and water in a saucepan, cook for 4-5 minutes till the sugar dissolves and water starts boiling.

  • When the kunafa is done, take it out of the oven. Run the knife around the edges.
  • Flip onto a serving plate and pour the cooled syrup over the hot kunafa.
