Kunafa is a popular middle eastern dessert, made with special kataifi pastry.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 60 minutes
Serves: 12

400 gm kataifi pastry ( you can easily find it in any middle eastern food store)
1/2 cup melted butter
240 gm cream cheese
1/4 teaspoon orange food colour
1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Preheat the oven at 180 degree C.
Grease a 30 cm baking pan with 2 tablespoons of butter mixed with orange food colour.
Put the pastry in a mixing bowl.
Shred it using your hands.
Pour 1/2 cup butter over the pastry and mix properly.

Divide the pastry in half.
Spread half of the pastry evenly in the greased baking pan, and press with your hands.
Spread cream cheese evenly over the pastry.

Finally spread the remaining half pastry over the cream cheese.
Put the pan in the pre heated oven and bake for 30-40 minutes or until the top turns golden.

Prepare the syrup by combining sugar and water in a saucepan, cook for 4-5 minutes till the sugar dissolves and water starts boiling.

When the kunafa is done, take it out of the oven. Run the knife around the edges.
Flip onto a serving plate and pour the cooled syrup over the hot kunafa.
