Madaras Daal
Red lentils made with Indian spices is the easiest dinner one can ever make.
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 45 minutes
Serves: 4
Ingredients
For Daal
1/2 cup red lentils
2 1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
salt to taste
For Tempering
1/4 cup oil
6-7 curry leaves
3 cloves of garlic, sliced
5-6 whole red chillies
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
3 green chillies
1 chopped tomato
1/4 teaspoon red chilli powder
1/4 teaspoon all spices powder
1/4 teaspoon curry powder ( you can get that easily from any asian store)
Method
For Daal
Pour water in a deep cooking pot add red lentils, red chilli powder and turmeric powder.
Turn the flame on high.
When water starts boiling, turn the flame to low and cook for 35-40 minutes.
Add salt and cook on high flame until you get the desired consistency.
Turn the flame off.
For Tempering
Heat oil in a frying pan.
Add curry leaves, garlic, whole red chillies, cumin seeds, green chillies, tomato, red chilli powder, all spices powder, and curry powder.
Fry for 5-10 minutes.
Pour this oil all over the daal.
Serve hot with chapati.
