Melted Chocolate and Brie on Italian Toast
I LOVE chocolate and I LOVE cheese -so I put the two together and made a delicious toasted sandwich for lunch. You could use either dark or milk chocolate for this recipe and today I used dark.
Add some fresh basil leaves (I could not as I went to pick it and the snails had eaten it all!), and you have an unusual taste sensation.
The crunchy Italian toast, with the gooey melted chocolate and the oozing brie cheese make this a favourite.
The two servings were eaten by just one person!
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 5 minutes
Makes: 2 servings
Ingredients
4 slices Ciabatta or similar Italian white bread
About 20 ml olive oil
About 100 g Brie
About 70 - 80 g chocolate bits
Method
Brush all the slices of bread, on both sides, with some olive oil.
Toast the bread in a sandwich press or toaster until it just starts to go golden.
Cover one of each pair with the cheese.
Lay the chocolate on top.
Add the basil on top, if using.
Close the bread and put it back in the sandwich maker for another few minutes, or until the chocolate is melting.
If you do not have a sandwich maker, fry it in a frypan.
Cut the sandwiches in halves or quarters, depending on the size of the loaf, and serve.
