Finally the weather is cold enough to sip warm, mulled wine in front of the fire. I haven't drunk red wine for many years as I'm not a big fan, but this warming tipple is delicious!
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Makes: Approx 2 litres
Ingredients
2 bottles merlot
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 cups of water
1 sliced orange
20 whole cloves
6 cinnamon sticks
Method
Mix water, orange and spices and simmer for 1 hour. Strain.

Heat the wine, without boiling, and add to the strained syrup.

Your mulled wine is now ready to be enjoyed!
The syrup will keep for several weeks if you don't want to make 2 litres straight away.
