If you think of breakfast as a hot bowl of porridge, or a fresh and healthy drink that you gulp down on your way to work, then why not combine the two and have the ultimate breakfast smoothie. Oats are often considered a winter food; best enjoyed hot with honey or your favourite flavouring. This recipe takes the idea of porridge to a new level. Whilst most smoothies are cold and oats are served hot, how can we combine these two breakfast ideas to create a delicious and nutritious breakfast the whole family will enjoy? Easy. Get some oats, your favourite fruits, one banana, milk, yoghurt, some honey and blend it all up! The result, a beautifully smooth drink that is filling, fresh and nutritious.
If you are feeling a tad lazy to make breakfast before work or if you just canít be bothered serving everyone up a bowl of porridge and then doing the washing up, then this smoothie will delight you. You can use whole rolled oats or quick cooking porridge, it doesnít matter which you use because it will all be blended up anyway and there wonít be any lumps. I know in our family "lumps" in smoothies are a cause for complaint, if not a reason for a good old sook, but this smoothie won't give the kids a reason to complain because the lumps are virtually non existent.
By all means experiment with this recipe, but the key ingredients are oats and the banana which will ensure the smoothie whips up smooth.

A handful of frozen blueberries
2 tablespoons of yoghurt
1 cup of milk
4 ice cubes (optional Ė depending on how runny you want to make it)

Add the rest of the ingredients and blend until smooth.
