Onion Pakoras

Onion pakoras are a very famous snack, which find their place in most Indian households. They're easy to prepare and taste delicious.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Makes: 6 servings

Ingredients
3 medium sized chopped onions
2 cups gram flour (besan)
1/2 tbs red chilli powder
1pinch of turmeric powder (haldi)
1/2 tbs ajwain or carom seeds
1 pinch of asafoetida (hing)
Oil for deep frying
Salt as required

Method
  • Chop the onion in to thin long pieces.

  • Add the chilli powder, asafoetida, salt and gram flour to the sliced onions.

  • Add very little water water, blend it properly and keep it aside for 5 min. Onions will start releasing the water.

  • Please ensure that the batter should not be watery and the consistency of the batter should be thick.

  • You can add more besan if you feel the batter is not thick. You can always adjust the content of besan and water by adding it more if you feel you have not got the right consistency.

  • Now heat the oil in a frying pan.

  • Take a tbs of the above batter and put it in the oil.

  • Fry the pakoras on a low flame till golden brown.

  • Serve it hot with sauce or green chutney.
