Cheese and Celery Loaf

This cheese and celery loaf is good for morning or afternoon tea or a snack. If served topped with cold meat and tomato or other salad vegetables it is nice as a light lunch.

Buttered slices of Cheese and Celery Loaf

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Makes: 12 slices

2 cups SR flour
90g margarine or butter
1 cup grated matured cheese
1/3 cup finely chopped celery
1/2 cup milk
1 large egg, beaten
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Sift SR flour into medium sized bowl.
Rub in margarine.
Mix in celery, cheese and garlic powder.
Add milk and beaten egg.

Add celery, cheese and garlic powder

Mix to a soft dough.
Knead lightly in bowl.
Turn out onto floured board.
Form into a rough oval shape.

Place on greased oven tray.
Brush top with a little milk.
Bake in moderate oven for about 30 minutes until light brown.

Remove from oven

Serve warm or cold, sliced and buttered.
