I've been making these for 20 years. They're simple and sweet.
Preparation Time: 8 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Makes: 2 servings
Ingredients
500ml water
1/2 cup golden syrup
1/2 cup sugar
20g butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup self raising flour
1 tbsp caster sugar
80g extra butter
1/4 cup milk
Method
Place the water, golden syrup, sugar, butter and vanilla in a pot and bring to the boil.
Place the flour and caster sugar in a bowl, add the softened extra butter.
Rub the butter into the flour gently until it resembles breadcrumbs. Add the milk.
Gently mix in the milk until it forms a soft dough. It may be a little wet so just dust with a little extra flour.
Roll into small balls, should make around nine dumplings (the cook always gets the extra).
Drop the balls into the boiling syrup and reduce the heat so it is just turning over. After 5 minute cover with a lid. The dumplings are cooked when a skewer comes out clean.
Serve with pouring cream.
