I grew up in Scotland, where porridge is a staple breakfast, and one that I still love today. The oats are packed with healthy goodness from fibre and protein, and it keeps you feeling fuller for longer. It's the perfect way to start your day.

Here's the basic recipe for making your own porridge, which couldn't be simpler. It's then up to you on how you want to jazz it up. Mash up some bananas, add some fresh berries, or sprinkle on a little brown sugar and cinnamon.

The recipe uses equal amounts of oats, water and milk, so it's easy to double or triple up if you need more servings.

Preparation Time: 1 minute
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Makes: 1 serving

Porridge Oats

1 cup Porridge oats
1 cup Milk (semi of full-fat milk, the choice is yours)
1 cup Water

I use a small cup for my measuring, it holds 150ml of liquid.

Measure out 1 cup of oats, 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of water

Place in a saucepan and heat gently for around 10 minutes.
Stir occasionally to ensure the porridge doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan.
The porridge is ready when the milk and water has been absorbed and it's lovely and gloopy.

You can eat it as it is, or add anything you like to liven it up.
