It is said that the gods Mount. Olympus feasted on Ambrosia, a sweet and heavenly dew. On earth, the closest we'll ever get to tasting the food of the gods is honey. This divine nectar comes from the unwavering dedication of a hardworking hive. Just one teaspoon is the lifetime achievement of one little bee.

Lower Egypt, which has the first recorded use of honey, was once known as 'The Land of Bees'. Honey was first used as a medicine - probably the only one we'd actually be eager to take - and was often used to disguise the taste of less pleasing ailments, but today it is one of our favourite dressings. In this recipe, honey is the accompaniment to some fine fruits, and makes a delicious dessert. Based on the brands I used, each honeyed apple should be about 164 calories.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Makes: 3 servings

3 Granny Smith Apples
60g dried figs
1 1/2 tbsp clear honey
1 tsp soya butter
1 1/2 tbsp water

Pre-heat the oven to 170 ༠C/ 150 ༠C fan/325 ༠F/3 Gas.
Peel and core the apples.
Chop the figs and pour into the apples.
Melt the honey, butter and water in a saucepan.
Pour the honey mixture over the apples.
Bake in the oven
