Potatoes are a meal/accompaniment that I have often, as I love them and they are so versatile.

In this recipe I have mixed them with apples and a creamy sauce making a gratin.

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 60 minutes
Serves: 3 - 4

450 g potatoes
2 small apples, quartered
100 ml thickened cream
50 ml milk
1 garlic clove
65 g cheese, grated - I used Swiss cheese

Preheat the oven to 180/160 fan forced.

Bring the cream, milk, garlic, pinch of nutmeg and some salt and pepper to the boil, and then remove from the heat.

Slice the apples and potatoes (I did them about 5 mm thick) and put them together in a gratin dish, or similar.

Stir the grated cheese into the cream mixture, and pour it over the potatoes and apples.

Bake in the oven for about an hour or until the potatoes are done and the top is starting to brown.

Serve as a main meal or as an accompaniment.

I served it with my sauerkraut pie.
