Protein Smoothie

Protein Smoothie

You should ideally eat protein straight after a workout, but it isn't always convenient to carry a piece of chicken in your bag if you've just left the gym . Here's a protein rich drink you can take with you, or enjoy when you've completed a workout.

I've used Jersey milk because it is naturally higher in protein than regular cows' milk, plus it is unhomogenised, which means it hasn't been pumped with hormones, so it is as close to raw milk as possible (and available in most supermarkets in the UK).

Preparation Time: 1 minute
Cooking Time: 2 minutes
Makes: 1 serving

Ingredients
100ml of Jersey/Guernsey milk
1 brazil nut
5 almonds
1 tsp cashew butter
Half a banana
Cinnamon (optional)

Required ingredients

Method
  • Heat the milk in a saucepan-- it's better than the microwave, the molecules in the milk expand better by gradual warming, making the protein easier to absorb once heated up.

  • Pour the milk in a blender.

  • Add all of the remaining ingredients.

  • Blend.

  • Once blended dust with cinnamon.

  • I like to make this before I head to the gym and pack it in my bag to be enjoyed on the journey home after working out. Make sure you use a screw-top lid, or an airtight lid, so the smoothie doesn't leak in your bag.

Drink this protein smoothie post-workout and you'll have replenished muscles, and a happy tummy.
