Rose Rolls

These buns are so soft that they almost melt in your mouth. They have a delicious minced meat filling inside but can be made with almost any filling of your choice.

Preparation Time: 45 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Makes: 10-12 servings

4 cups plain flour
1 tbsp instant yeast
2 tbsp powdered milk
1 tsp salt
4 tbsp oil
1 egg
1 tsp castor sugar
1 tsp baking powder

In a bowl, mix all the ingredients with warm water and knead to obtain a soft dough. Leave to rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours.
Preheat oven at 180C.
When dough is well risen, knock back and knead again.
Divide dough in 10-12 equal parts and roll out each ball to obtain a circle of 10 cm.

Cut out circles of 10 cm diameter

Using a sharp knife, cut the edge as shown in the picture below.

Make diagonal slits

Brush slightly with melted butter and spoon in your filling in the middle of the circle.
Take one 'petal' and wrap it around the filling and take the opposite one and cover the filling.

Cover the filling

Finish with the remaining 2 'petals' and place on a greased baking tray.

Rolls ready to be baked

Glaze with egg and bake for 20 minutes in hot oven until golden in colour.
Remove from oven and brush with butter.
Cover with a clean kitchen towel.
Serve warm.
