Sabudana Pearl Sago Khichdi

Sabudana (PearlSago) is an Indian delicacy mainly prepared during the days when we fast. This dish is very easy to prepare and it's loved by people of all age groups.

Soaking time: 6-8 hours (Overnight for better results)

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Makes: 5-6 servings

Ingredients
1 cup Sabudana (Pearl Sago, it is available at any Indian store)
1/2 cup roasted peanuts
1 finely chopped potato
2 finely chopped green chillies
1/2 cup finely chopped coriander
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp oil
1/4th cup lemon juice
Salt to taste

Method
  • Add 1 tsp of oil to a pan and heat it.
  • Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds to it.

  • Once the seeds start to splutter, add green chillies and potatoes to it and let it cook for few minutes until the potato becomes a little soft.

  • Now add sabudana (Pearl Sago) and stir it continuously.

  • In the meantime, roast the peanuts in a frying pan for around 5 minutes. Grind the roasted peanuts and mix it with the sabudana. The peanuts make the dish crunchier and add flavour.

  • Let the sabudana cook for around 10 minutes until it becomes a little soft.

  • Squeeze some lemon juice on it and garnish the dish with coriander. The dish is ready to be served hot and may be relished with curd.
