Sallys Amazing Marzipan Sweets

If, like me you are already making marzipan to go on your Christmas Cake, then why not make a bit more and make marzipan sweets too?

These are a great addition to have at your Christmas table, are easy and fun to make, and taste delicious.

They also make great little gifts to take out with you on your Christmas travels.

"Oh you know. Just a little something I threw together this morning. It took minutes." It looks very impressive and of course, in truth, it does just take minutes.

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 2 minutes (To melt the chocolate only).
Makes: 40 sweets

Ingredients
150 g Ground Almonds
150 g Caster Sugar
150 g Icing Sugar
1 Egg - beaten
1 teaspoon lemon juice
150 g - 200g Dark or Milk Chocolate, or a mixture of the two.

Method
  • Step 1.
  • Put the Ground Almonds, icing Sugar and Caster Sugar into a bowl and make a well in the middle.
  • Step 2
  • Place the beaten egg and lemon juice into a well in the middle of the dry ingredients.
  • Step 3
  • Mix everything together and use your hands to squeeze the mixture into a dough style mixture.

  • Step 4
  • Roll out onto a board

  • Step 5
  • Cut into a grid of five horizontal lines and 5 vertical lines, making 40 pieces of marzipan.
  • Step 6
  • Roll each piece into a ball. you should have about 40 marzipan sweets.
  • Step 7
  • Place the sweets in the fridge to firm up whilst you melt the chocolate.

  • Step 8
  • Either: Melt the chocolate: either in a double saucepan or bowl over a pan of boiling water, over a hob.
    Or: Carefully melt the chocolate in the microwave. If using a microwave, make sure that you use a glass bowl. If you use a plastic bowl it will, as (I once found out to my cost), melt.
  • Step 9
  • Place the marzipan sweets into the chocolate and carefully coat them with the chocolate.

  • Step 10
  • Place the chocolate covered sweets onto greaseproof paper on a flat tray.
  • Step 11
  • Refrigerate until firm. If preferred, dust with icing sugar. Store in a tin.
