Semolina balls are commonly known as rava laddu in India. This is a popular sweet made during festivals. I mixed some pitted dates with semolina to make this sweet balls.

This is one of the common sweets in India. This is a quick and easy sweet you can make. You can also add grated coconut, cashews and raisins if you wish.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Makes: 10-12 balls

Ingredients
10 dates pitted and chopped
1 cup semolina flour
3/4 cup sugar
5 tbsp ghee
1/4 tsp cardamom powder
1/2 cup hot milk

Method
  • Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a pan. Fry the chopped dates in hot ghee for 1 minute. Then transfer it to a bowl. Keep aside.

  • In the same pan, heat the remaining ghee. Add the semolina flour and roast for 5 minutes on low to medium flame. Stir continuously to roast the flour evenly.

  • Reduce the heat to low. Now add sugar and stir to mix well.

  • Now add the ghee-fried dates and cardamom powder and mix well.

  • Add milk, stir well and cook on medium heat. Mash the dates with a spatula.

  • Cook until the semolina flour absorbs all milk and forms a soft dough.

  • Let it cool down. Then make small lemon size balls from the dough.

  • The sweet balls are ready. Serve them after at least 1 hour. The balls will be slightly glazed since they are cooked in sugar.

  • You can store the balls in an air tight container for about 5 days.
