Slowcooked Smoky Beef Casserole

Posted 2016-06-15 by lydiafollow

There's nothing better on a cold winter's night than a hearty, full of flavour casserole. Melt in your mouth beef is given a kick with smoky paprika and oregano.
If you want to prepare this quickly, then pressure cook it for 30 minutes - the results are the same as the slow cook method. Don't fuss about browning everything separately - it takes valuable time away from your family!

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 5 hours
Makes: 6 servings

Ingredients
1kg gravy beef
6 medium sized brown onions
2 cloves garlic - crushed
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
2 teaspoons dried oregano
2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
800g tin peeled tomatoes
12 baby potatoes
1 tablespoon gravy powder

Method
  • To slow cook, pop the olive oil in the base of a lidded flame proof casserole dish, or in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  • Cut the gravy beef into about 3 pieces each (5cm round)
  • Peel and cut the onions in half horizontally.

  • Cut the baby potatoes in half.

  • Gently heat your cooking pot and put the onions, beef and garlic in. Throw the potatoes in as well, and then the spice and oregano.
  • Stir them all together so that everything is evenly coated. Pop in the tomatoes, salt and pepper and stir well again.
  • Set slow cooker for 5 hours, or cook in oven for 5 hours at 150 degrees C.
  • Just before serving, thicken the sauce with the gravy powder.
