Spelt Crackers
I have been addicted to making crackers lately! The freshness of home baked crackers can't be beat. These wholemeal crackers are made with spelt flour. Spelt is an "ancient grain" similar to wheat, and is currently regaining popularity. You may be able to find spelt flour in your supermarket, otherwise try your local health food store.
These crackers are perfect with
spinach hummus or other dips.
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Makes: approximately 50 crackers
Ingredients
2 cups wholemeal spelt flour
1/2 tsp bicarbonate soda
2 tbs chia seeds
1/4 tsp sea salt, freshly ground
2/3 cup water (or as needed)
Method
Preheat the oven to 180C/350F and prepare 2 cookie sheets.
Combine the flour, bicarb, chia seeds and salt in a large bowl.
Pour in the water, a little bit at a time, mixing until a smooth dough forms.
Divide the dough into 2 even pieces.
Roll each piece onto each cookie sheet to about 3mm thickness. You may need to use an extra piece of baking paper to stop the dough sticking to the rolling pin.
Use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into 2 ½ cm sized squares.
Bake for 20 minutes or until crispy.
Let cool completely before transferring to an airtight container for storage.
