Strawberry Jam Zero Preservatives
I rarely buy Jam from supermarkets considering the amount of sugar, colors and preservatives they use. Even if they claim to be organic but have a label saying they could last of months and are stocked in non refrigerating section of supermarket, it makes me skeptical. There has to be something in these jams to sit on shelves for so long without going bad.
So here is the most basic and simple recipe of strawberry jam that any beginner can make. The best thing about it is that you do not need to add any setting agent or preservatives. It will result in beautiful spreadable jam ready in 30-45 minutes. I made 2 small jars as this was my first batch. Feel free to double up the recipe if you need to.
So no white sugar or setting sugar, no butter, no preservatives make it a win win . Great for kids and adults.
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Makes: 2 small jars
Ingredients :
Fresh Strawberries 250 gram
Raw sugar 3/4 cup ( Depends on your taste )
Lemon Juice 2 Tbsp
Method
Wash strawberries and take the caps off. I cut them in half as well.
Mash the strawberries with a potato masher. You do not need to make it silky smooth. It should look something like in this image below.
Get sugar and lemon ready.
Transfer strawberries to a stove , add the sugar and 2 Tbsp lemon. Keep stirring on low heat.
Keep stirring until it thickens up.
Cool the jam and store it in jars that have been sterilised in hot water.
I would recommend finishing this jam in 2-3 weeks since this does not have preservatives and is all natural. I have not kept it for longer than that, it may or may not be good.
Enjoy it with a toast, crepes, donuts or whichever way you like !
