Strawberry Jam

I am 14 years old. I have always made my recipes from scratch and have never used a packet mix.

This is an easy recipe to make delicious strawberry jam. Make it when strawberries are cheap for an easy addition to the kitchen.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 40 minutes
Makes: 3-4 jars

1kg strawberries
750g sugar
1 lemon juiced
small knob butter

Wash jam jars in hot soapy water then put then in the oven at 100˚c until you are ready for them.
Hull strawberries
Put in a large bowl and mash them.


Put them in a heavy based saucepan, add sugar and lemon juice.

Heat at low heat until sugar is dissolved.
Bring to boil. Boil for 10-20 minutes or until a little bit of jam on a cold saucer wrinkles when pushed with the finger.

Skim any scum off the top or add knob of butter and stir. Cool a little.
Ladle into warm dry jars. Fill to near the top. Secure the lid. Tip upside down to sterilise lid with hot jam.
Store jam in fridge or cool dry place.
Refrigerate once opened.
