This is a really easy recipe for making turkey burgers that the whole family can enjoy. Great on the bbq but also just as easily cooked in the frying pan or on the grill. Very versatile, which means you can add in extra veggies that you might have in the fridge. Also a winner with the kids. If you omit the feta cheese, then you have a pretty healthy lunch or dinner option which is high in protein and low in fat.
500g packet of turkey mince (you can use chicken too)
1 small onion diced
1 carrot grated
4 tablespoons of sweet chilli sauce
1/2 cup of breadcrumbs
Salt and pepper to personal taste
Optional extra: Feta cheese (100g)
Also required is a small amount of plain flour for your hands whilst shaping the patties and some oil if you are pan frying your burgers.
Once you have the basic mix, you can also add in extra veggie such as garlic, capsicum and sweetcorn.
Whilst the mince is still in the packet, cut the mince vertically in approx 8 places (see picture above) to improve the overall texture of the mince when you come to mix together.
This is how the combined mixture will look
Place all of the ingredients into a large mixing bowl and combine together. It is best to use your hands to ensure all the ingredients are well binded, however, if you do not want to touch the raw mince, you can use a spoon.
Once combined, flour your hands then take a handful of the mixture and shape into a rough burger pattie. Set aside until you have made all 8-10. If you are creating burgers for your children, you can make smaller bite sized burgers.
The raw patties
Heat a lightly oiled frying pan and cook the burgers on a low heat for approximately 5 minutes on each side. Repeat for all burgers until they are cooked through.

Alternatively, these also cook well on the BBQ. Due to the inclusion of the sweet chilli sauce, low heat is preferred as otherwise you end up with a hard burnt crust on the edges.
If you have a smaller pan, you can simply cook in batches
Remove from the heat and enjoy. Here are a few serving suggestions:
- Pop into a burger bun with an asian side salad
- Serve with herby cous cous
- Team together with spicy potato wedges and some sour cream
- Enjoy with spicy rice
